I’m not ashamed to admit, I like routine.

However, I’m also the first to admit, this does not help my photo game. One thing I've learned since starting this experiment a month ago, is that you have to get out of your comfort zone — forcing yourself into new situations. Here's how I did just that…

First: Be Prepared

I've committed to carrying my camera everyday. Does that mean I take a photo everyday? Nah, sometimes I forget to change my battery, sometimes I'm just uninspired. The point is, it's there — physically reminding me of the fact that I want to be a better photographer.

Second: Seek Novelty

I've started making myself do something small, that takes me down a new road. For me this has manifested rather literally. I have a half hour commute, fifteen minutes of which, is walking. In the beginning, I was lacking on the second commitment. BUT I quickly noticed, that the amount of photos I take on a day that I switch up my walk, compared to one where I take my same path is dramatically different. So, I deiced to run an experiment this summer. What if I committed to taking a different route at least twice a week? Here are some of the results:

If you give this a shot, let me know how it goes for you.
